Initially a refurbishment of an existing single storey office building and showroom, RAC worked closely with the Clients to identify the future requirements of their growing business and throughout this process, the building evolved from simple refurbishment to demolition and re-build of a new structure.

  • RAC reversed the construction process and erected tilt panels first followed by concrete roof slab followed by first floor slab and finally ground floor slab. This protected the concrete at each stage which was left exposed to enhance the industrial nature of the building
  • Slender concrete tilt panel blades articulate the facade by giving depth and accentuating the slender verticality of the glazing mullions
  • A double height void was created at the entry to give the showroom presence and connect the upper level to the ground floor. The concrete slab was cantilevered away from the facade and rebated to receive timber slats. The juxtaposition of such fine detailing against the industrial off form nature of the concrete strengthens each element
  • Louvre blades designed to significanty reduce the heat load of the building by pulling them off the facade and angling them specifically for the harsh morning sun in the peak of summer
